Dukes and Milledge to compete for CF job in 2009

The News:
Elijah Dukes will be "competing" with Lastings Milledge for the Washington Nationals' starting center fielder spot next season, according to MLB.com.

Our View:
Dukes only saw 276 at-bats in 2008, but was fairly productive with 13 home runs, 44 RBI, and a .264 average. Milledge, on the other hand, gave similar production in about twice as many at-bats, with a .268 average, 14 home runs, and 61 RBI in 523 plate appearances.

I read this little update twice today. Once on Fanball.com and the other on NYPDCrimeStoppers.com. I personally added the quotes around the word competing, mainly because I'm assuming in this case competing will mean some sort of wild-west style shoot out on the streets on DC.

People of Washington, stay indoors in the spring!

Dukes is the modern day Ty Cobb, socially at least. Except he's black. And probably has a higher kill count than Cobb's measly 1.
